South Moravia, Czechia, is a region situated in the southeastern part of the country and is characterized by its rolling hills, wine production, and the meandering Morava River. With a total of 7 districts and nearly 700 municipalities, approximately 1.3 million people live in the region. 

Focus area and Challenges

The region faces a diversity of challenges, specifically when it comes extreme weather events leading to drought and flash flooding. It also contends with ongoing processes of land consolidation, and conflicts between agricultural and environmental interests.  

Objectives

Through the project, South Moravia aims to involve its many municipalities in setting new rules for coordinated municipal land management and forge new partnerships in the region for testing new approaches. It further hopes to transform brownfield sites into new sources of local energy production.
