PLUS Changers in the Spotlight 18: Surrey County Council (CC)

In the eighteenth edition of our series, PLUS Changers in the Spotlight, we introduce the Surrey County Council, practice case of Surrey, in the United Kingdom.

About

Surrey County Council is a local governing body for the non-metropolitan county of Surrey, England, located to the southwest of London and spanning the area between Heathrow and Gatwick airports.  Their purpose as a council is to tackle inequality and ensure that no one is left behind. Surrey CC’s four guiding priorities are: 1) growing a sustainable economy so everyone can benefit; 2) tackling health inequality; 3) enabling a greener future; 4) supporting empowered and thriving communities.

Project Role

As an upper-tier local authority, Surrey CC plays a role in the strategic side of the planning process, supporting social services and leading on sustainability and climate change.  Their experience and expertise in these fields, in addition to their enthusiasm to work with other partners, will help the project to move forward with testing innovative approaches.

Expectations

Surrey CC is excited about exploring new possibilities for addressing climate change and biodiversity issues within the planning system and being at the forefront of change!

“Climate change is in the hands of us all, and via PLUS Change collectively we are actively leading from the front.”
